📝 Odd Sentence Out in CAT VARC – Don’t Ignore It!
“Odd Sentence Out” — also known as Sentence Exclusion or Misfit Sentences — is a must-do topic in CAT. Every year, around 3 questions are asked from this section. Can we afford to ignore it? Never!
🔎 What is Odd Sentence Out?
The examiner gives you 5 jumbled sentences.
-
Any 4 of them form a coherent paragraph.
-
The 5th is the misfit, which needs to be identified.
This makes the question tricky, because you don’t just have to spot the odd one — you also need to mentally unscramble the rest of the paragraph to confirm your answer.

🎯 How to Solve Odd Sentence Out Questions
-
Look for theme consistency — all valid sentences should belong to the same context.
-
Watch out for tone shifts — one sentence may sound promotional, while others are informative.
-
Use grammar & connectors — pronouns, conjunctions, and references must link logically.
-
Apply Parajumble logic — try to form a paragraph; the leftover is your odd one.
